I'm forecasting 76 in Austin which would be our coolest since 74 on May 21st! Then with mainly clear skies and light winds Saturday night into Sunday morning, I'm forecasting a low of 53, the coolest since 52 on April 30th, more than 5 months ago! Behind it, we'll see breezy north-northeast winds develop 10-20 mph Saturday along with markedly lower dew points. The second cold front pushes through on a dry note as a reinforcing shot of cooler air. Behind the second one, we'll finally get the crisp, dry, delightful air we've been craving.ĬOLD FRONT #2 - FRIDAY NIGHT TO SATURDAY MORNING Our average high is now 86, so it will be a seasonable fall day! Humidity will be lower, but still on the slightly muggy side behind the first front. For Austin, I'm forecasting 83, a 15-degree drop from Wednesday! 83 would be our coolest high in 4 months, since June 4th! Friday now looks dry, and morning clouds are expected to break for some sunshine, so I bumped the high up a bit to 86. In terms of temperatures, we'll fall into the low 70s by daybreak and rebound with drier but mainly cloudy weather in the afternoon Thursday with highs in the low to mid 80s. The overall risk is very low, and this will mainly be a beneficial rain event. We're in a level 1 of 4 flood risk, but if any flooding does develop, it would be minor and short-lived. Most areas will get up to 1" of rain, but some 2 to 3" totals are possible - favoring areas east of I-35. While there could be some strong storms with dangerous lightning, severe storms are unlikely. Periods of rain, heavy at times, could coincide with the morning rush, so be ready for possible delays. The first cold front arrives Thursday morning accompanied by showers and storms.
Two cold fronts are going to bring the feel of fall to Central Texas, finally! At least temporary relief is just hours away. Meanwhile, Camp Mabry avoided triple-digit temps, but soared to 98, tying the record from 1929! Let's hope the heat is behind us for good. The previous record latest at the airport was September 28th, 2011 (100) as well as September 28th, 2005 (105). It's official, and much to the chagrin of all Central Texans, we hit 100 degrees at Austin Bergstrom International Airport, shattering the October 4th daily record of 95 set in 1956 and setting the all-time latest 100-degree day record.
